Kates Bio speaks for itself:
Kates bio:
An artist waiting in the shadows in Chicago, Kate Simko stepped in to the light in 2011, pushing boundaries and leaving an indelible mark of individuality and inspiration on dance floors worldwide. To start, Kate released her acclaimed debut album Lights Out earlier this year on Berlin's esteemed HelloRepeat label. An artistic statement that bridged her diverse love of house, tech-house, minimal, ambient, and beyond, this is an LP in the classic sense - an album to be played from start to finish.
Aiming to take things to another level with her live performance, Kate teamed up with visual artist Jeffrey Weeter to create a cutting-edge audio-visual display to complement the album release tour. Their collaborative efforts resulted in an innovative "live cinema" show in which Kate's music manipulates high definition video, in real-time. The subsequent live tour took in Asia, Europe and the Americas and included venues of the calibre of Fabric, Verboten in NYC, Copenhagens Culture Box, Eleven (Tokyo), Cocoliche (Buenos Aires) and Rex Club in Paris. Simkos engaging A/V set took the world by storm.
Looking for a change, post-album, Kate set her solo music aside and pursued collaborations and remixes which also left their mark. Her Sit Back EP with Anthony Collins on Supplement Facts was supported by the most discerning DJ's, including Ellen Allien, Loco Dice, John Digweed, and Steve Bug. Her unique, musical remix of Guy Gerber's anthem Hate/Love also resonated with DJ's and music-lovers worldwide, earning its place at the top of Maya Jane Coles' chart, amongst others. Another remix - this time of Tevo Howard's Move - was chosen as a featured song on iTunes - a rare feat for underground house music.
Back in Chicago between gigs, Kate has now teamed up with Tevo Howard (Beautiful Granville, Rush Hour) where the duo invented a fresh analog-based project, Polyrhythmic, whose debut EP is set to drop in November 2011. Combining years of experience in the scene, Tevo and Kate have emerged at the forefront of the new Chicago sound. Recognizing Kate's successes, Chicago's legendary Smart Bar club added her as an official resident. Joining the ranks of Derrick Carter, DJ Heather, Miles Maeda, and Justin Long, Kate curates quarterly nights where she plays alongside her guests.
Getting her start stateside alongside Matthew Dear, Ryan Elliott, and the Spectral Sound family, Kate has quietly, yet consistently, established herself as one of the standout artists in the United States. A diverse musician, Kate's projects have ranged from solo piano compositions, to remixing Philip Glass, to composing a feature-length film score, to rocking jackin DJ sets, and producing intricate dance music. Her unique background has led to a distinctive sound that has carved her niche in dance music's avant garde, while her live set and DJ sets have continued to light up dance floors across the globe.
Elated that things are rolling, Kate is moving forward with unrelenting passion. With a couple solo EP's in the works, a brand new A/V set in motion, a fresh collaboration with Matt Tolfrey, and a couple more high profile remixes about to drop, Kate is eager to keep sharing her musical passion with the world
